CHOCOLATE CURES COUGHS (NOT)
There’s a new cough syrup in Europe that contains cocoa, and an article about its effectiveness in a British paper apparently led to a rash of headlines in the US proclaiming that eating chocolate can cure a cough.
Not exactly, but the cocoa-based syrup does coat the throat more effectively than honey, according to a study cited in the original Daily Mail article. Drinking hot cocoa wouldn’t work because the cocoa doesn’t stick around in the throat long enough, the Daily Mail said.
