HEALTHY DIET HEALTHY MOOD
Depression patients might consider altering their diet, according to a study in the journal PLOS ONE. In this randomized controlled study, a Mediterranean-style diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, and little processed food, was associated with depression declining from the “moderate” range to a “normal” score. Depression in the control group, who didn’t alter their diets, was unchanged. Other recommendations derived from the study: three servings of unsweetened dairy per day, three tablespoons of nuts and seeds, two tablespoons of olive oil, and spices including turmeric and cinnamon.
